Back from SDCC and my California road trip as I once again sought work as a comic penciller down in SoCal. It was a good experience, some good, some bad, but overall worthy of my effort, only time will tell what comes of it. I just uploaded a bunch of the pages I brought down there to San Diego including a 3 page Wonder Woman / Secret six submission, a Supernatural / old Ghostbusters submission, a page from the upcoming Electronica comic and a couple pages of Aquaman and Fathom as they try to save the crew of the Wizard from the Deadliest Catch.

All of these have been organized in my Pencilling Submissions 2011 Gallery folder. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

Preparing for SDCC and making some large jumps in my art quality I've decided to begin taking down some of my older work that doesn't reflect me as an artist anymore. I just want to put my best pencilled line forward because my ultimate goal is here to get more work and I know some talent seekers come here to DA. If there is anything that you have added to your favorites that's older than six months you may want to download it if you like. I will keep some of my older favorites in my gallery labeled for being older works.

I'm happy to say that my comic Electronica is finally now available for Pre-order. Electronica is a comic I have worked on off and on for some time and this past year ramped up the progress entering it in Dimestore Produductions Small Press Idol contest. With the mini-series in development for next year, this is where it starts.

Electronica is a story about our near future, a city built on alien technology called Electronica. The story asks the question "Will we use the the technology to fix our world in disarray, or abuse it like so many other things?" The unique scenario and the colorful characters allow me to develop a very well rounded story that has heart and some humor, but also brings up some fairly serious issues which makes for a interesting fun world for me to draw.

What you will get is a 24-page full color comic book with 12 pages of Electronica and 12 pages of the comic Stitchwork, which I really am proud to be sharing the paper with. The issues are available through Dimestore Distribution which is a secure payment site that has been established for many years as a promoter and backer of many independent comics. The cost, which is currently discounted, is $3.99 per copy and the shipping is very modest, they accept credit cards and Paypal. Pre-ordering lasts thru November, issues will be shipped in December.

Also, when looking at the store please consider picking up some of the other great titles, some still in the running for the coveted Small Press Idol prize. Here is a link to see all of the 2010 titles available www.dimestoredistro.com/spa-co…

Thanks everyone for your support and keep creating!

Less than a a week left in the voting for the comics in the Small Press Idol contest and Electronica is stalled at slot 8 against the marketing engines of the competitors.

"E" is a project that has been with me for a long time and it's something that I've always enjoyed doing because it is a mix of real science sci-fi with realities that we are dealing with in the world now such as climate change. To make the hard facts of the book digestible the comic is character driven with fun lovable characters such as the young psychic Girl170 fav.me/d2ol4ek and the oracular guide to her adventures Martian Bhundari fav.me/d2oox9b

I'm posting this journal because I'M ASKING YOU if you've voted for the comic Electronica please vote again daily, if you haven't and you like my work and WATCH IT please take a moment and register here www.smallpressidol.com/join.ht… and then vote here www.voteelectronica.wegjart.co… to see this project thru round 3 and get it into round 4 where we will see the full 12 page preview issue in FULL COLOR. Joining and voting only takes a moment and an email address and makes a lot of difference. If you hate Electronica, then vote for someone else, but right now there are a lot of projects not making it in the contest simply because the website doesn't have enough foot traffic. See ALL THE PROJECTS at www.smallpressidol.com/2010

Track the project Electronica, now and after the contest, see more art and get the inside scoop on characters and the story on the facebook page at www.facebookelectronica.wegjar… - Let me know what you think!

Thanks everyone for your support.

Sincerely,

WEGJ

Electronica is a fun comic book sci-fi epic that I have been working on, off and on, for the past 10 years as a developing artist.

This morning I wrote out a nice commentary on the first 4 pages of the Electronica Prelude issue and I wanted to share that hear since it has some interesting details about sequential storytelling.

-- From the Small Press Idol forum --

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I'm doing my best to market, building a little each day but maybe not fast enough. Please keep voting!

I think you get it LaPorte, regarding the desert scene. I understood this was a risky choice not delivering the big flash-bang other pages might give me, but it was important for me to unveil one of the most important characters in the book in a dramatic way; the city itself. The book is called Electronica :), and it is part of the character of the story, one that didn't even get a slot in the bios. Want to see the energy of the characters? Check out the bios SPI 2010 - Small Press Idol I don't want to defend the work, because I believe art should stand on it's own and this book won't be great for everyone, but there is something going on here that I think is worth mentioning, which is tension building and page rhythm. For the desert sequence, what's not there is part of the story, that there is an emptiness, to show the contrast of the old world versus the new, the full reveal of the city on it's own splash is a big "ta-da" if you were turning the page or going to the next page so the illustrator has a choice on whether to cram the sequence into one page, two, or stretch it into 3, I chose two because I felt like it gave me just the right amount of sequencing before it got too old. I didn't want it to be R2D2 and C3PO walking thru the desert for an hour ;) I think if the reader had the physical book in their hands they would look thru it more slowly and of course get to more copy heavy pages come page 5, the quick-scan effect that frequent contributor was talking about is real with any set of panels without words, thats when the reader has to say, "hey, i paid 2.99 for this, I think I will pay attention for a moment"

Anyhow, I hope this is enough to wet your whistle and keep voting for the next 8 pages, the Electronica book will push on thru this contest and after. To be track the book and it's progress "like it" on the Facebook page at Electronica Comic Book | Facebook

Thanks!

My comic Electronica is in Round 3 of the Small Press Idol Contest and it needs your votes to get to the next round. Winner of the contest gets their book published in FULL COLOR, which would greatly help me get it into your hands faster.

I have been working for some time on a graphic novel called Electronica, which you can see some examples here in my gallery. Right now, I have entered the book in Dimestore Productions Small Press Idol Contest, which is like American Idol for comic books. The winner gets their book printed, distributed in full color in addition to a number of other perks. I entered the contest because I think it might just be the kick in the pants the book needs, plus I get lots of good critique, but to win I NEED YOUR VOTES! Right now I'm in Round 2 of the contest which is character designs. Please check it out if you have a chance and VOTE for it  if you like it at:

www.smallpressidol.com/forum/t…
Once registered you can vote once a day (recommended) for Round 2 and if I make it to Round 3-4 it starts all over again!

See the full list of applicants and access to full Electronica submission as the Rounds commence here:

(scroll down for Electronica)

Also, if you know someone who likes comics/graphic novels/fun sci-fi adventures and would like to see, possibly support, this local comic  please feel free to post and forward the links. I'm excited about the opportunity to be in the running.

Thanks for you support!
